DEN Virtual Conference In-Person Event →
I am sad to report that the DEN virtual conference in-person event scheduled for PA has been canceled due to low enrollment.   While we will no longer be offering in-person trainings to accompany the streaming session, PA Discovery Educators can still participate in the online streaming sessions presented by the national DEN team.  Be sure to visit the PA blog and the National blog for details...

Online Connections →
Anthony Armstrong (South Korea) and I have been planning a collaborative simulation for our classes. We began our planning dialogue this past summer and have continued it through the first semester of the 2007-2008 school year. There were some bumps along the road - hardware didn’t arrive on time, the articulation of the task was not easy, etc. But, we started the simulation today. Here are...

Digital Storytelling Answers →
I meant to post this a bit ago … better late than never. When I present Digital Storytelling workshops and seminars, I am inevitably asked these questions or some variations thereof: Where can my students find photos that they can use in their digital stories? Do you have any examples of digital stories (especially ones created by younger elementary students)? My district doesn’t...

Having Our Say →
All I have to say about this video is WOW and EVERYONE should view it. Having Our Say is a production of the William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. The video captures the voices of middle-grade students (ages 13 and 14) as they articulate how they learn and want to learn and what they perceive they know about learning and working in the 21st century. It is a tremendously...

Find Your Ideal Candidate Match →
I have been compiling global and domestic news for my Online Connections class. I just added a few candidate matching applications (with, of course, the caveat that the “games” do not supplant the personal responsibility of the voter to make an educated personal decision.) Here are the four matching applications I added to my class’s wiki. I learned about them on NPR’s Blog...
